Social Networking Sites

The 4 social networking sites that I have chosen are Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and YouTube. Among the 4 sites, I would have to say that Facebook and Twitter, though still very unique in their own respect, are the 2 that are most similar. Both of these platforms primarily serve the purpose of publishing written statuses that users can express. Both of these platforms also allow a sharing feature which lets users share the posts of someone else (usually to spread awareness or simply because they agree or disagree and would like to start a discussion). I think both are great platforms that allow people to write their thoughts, but both host a dark side that gives way for "trolling" and cyberbullying.
Instagram, owned by Facebook, is a photo sharing social networking sites that allows users to share and view photos and videos. Something interesting is that Instagram gathers data about the people you follow, and posts you interact with, and shows you similar posts that the algorithm thinks you might find interest in. YouTube, similarly, uses an algorithm that keeps data on the videos you watch in order to recommend videos that might fit your interest.

  1. I agree with all that you said. I really liked the point you made about cyberbullying. As more younger kids use social media, we should look out for any cyberbullying.
