Privacy

Privacy and confidentiality are very closely related to new media, specifically social networking. These days, any app you download to your phone asks for permission to location, contacts, email, etc. Part of this reason is for the companies to better cater to your needs. However, I am sure there are a plethora of other reasons that these companies want their hands on our sensitive data. If you look closely at the terms and conditions, there are some clauses that we as users subconsciously and ignorantly agree to regarding their control and use of our data and information. (We should really study the terms and conditions to some of these applications).
I am reminded of the Cambridge Analytica incident in 2018 with Facebook. The company has hoarded the data of millions of Facebook users to use for political advertising purposes without the consent of said users during the US Presidential election. The Cambridge Analytica data scandal was a major and vital political-data scandal that made many technological users second guess social networking platforms and their use of users' sensitive information.
