Creativity and New Media
Something that I think fits the theme of "creativity and new media" is fantasy sports. Yahoo Fantasy Basketball is a media platform where you can compete against friends by drafting NBA players to create your "fantasy team" in this season-long competition. The algorithm tracks how NBA players perform in actual games. The stats are counted up and each participant's "fantasy team" reflects the performance of the players on their own team. Obviously, we have no control on how NBA players perform, but each user follows media updates regarding their players, and players on other teams that the user finds interest in.
By following up with media updates, users can trade players with each other which makes this creative competition all the more exciting and fun. Each week, you are paired with a competitor and the two teams compete to see who can win the most categories (points, rebounds, assists, etc.)
