Advice

All colleges can benefit from new media technologies. One idea is to incorporate a virtual reality technology so that people can get the closest classroom experience from home. Some individuals who can benefit from this are those who are sick, among other reasons. Instead of being absent and having to miss valuable information that notes from a friend cannot replicate, one may be able to "attend" class while in the comfort of their home. However, as I think about this option more, a negative may be that people would take advantage of this technology and stay home, rather than going to class. A simpler version of the virtual reality idea would be to broadcast the lecture in a way that it is only accessible to student in the class and available only for the time of the class session. However, this may violate some privacy laws that I may not be aware of.

  1. I think this would be a great idea. For those who are absent for unexpected reasons, your idea would be the perfect way to maintain class participation and not miss out on any materials. One worry I have about this method, though, is whether the classroom experience would carry over to the comforts of home.
